Psychological Testing
Overview
Psychological testing is a process in which a psychologist collects structured information in an attempt to clarify answers to questions about an individual’s diagnosis, level of functioning, and/or what types of interventions are likely to be most effective. At Newman Psych, Dr. Newman is the provider who conducts these evaluations. Types of information that may be collected during these evaluations include developmental, medical, educational, and family history, as well as current psychological, neuropsychological, social/emotional, and adaptive functioning. Standardized tests and questionnaires are typically administered in order to compare this individual to other typical individuals of the same age. In this way, the evaluation provides a “snapshot” of how s/he is functioning and whether s/he appears to exhibit characteristics that cross the threshold for what is considered “typical,” in either an adaptive or maladaptive way. Evaluation Types
Evaluations are individualized based on the reasons for the evaluation and the questions that need to be answered. However, below are some of the most common types of evaluations conducted by Dr. Newman. The costs associated with these evaluations are estimates based on Dr. Newman's self-pay rate. Insurance rates vary, and your patient responsibility will depend on your deductible, co-pay, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket max. Final determination of your responsibility is only made once claims have been processed.
